Students at Shema Kolainu – Hear Our Voices Learn About Tu B’Shvat
On Monday, Dr. Weinstein met with students of Shema Kolainu – Hear Our Voices for a special celebration and discussion of the holiday of Tu B’Shvat. This Jewish holiday occurs on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Sh’vat, and is known as the “New Year” or “birthday” of the trees. This is because the holiday marks the time when the earliest-blooming trees in Israel begin their new fruit-bearing cycle. Dr. Weinstein and the students discussed the meaning and traditions of Tu B’shvat, which include eating fruits grown in the Land of Israel, such as olives, dates, figs, and pomegranates. The students greatly enjoyed learning about this beautiful holiday.
