NICE TO MEET YOU :)
Thanks for swinging by, I can't wait to hear your story and getting to know more about you. But first, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Shema Kolainu (Shē'ma kō-lay-noo). I was born in 1998. Now, growing up in NYC was really tough. From a very young age, I had lots of growing pains, faced many struggles, and met many challenges. But, living in the city teaches you how to fight, and fighting I did.
Looking back, it was well worth it. Here's why very few 22 years old's can boast about their success the way I can. Now, I don't mean to brag. But, I was able to help so many young ones that were otherwise stranded. Their parents feel so indebted and are super grateful. That makes me feel great. They sing my praises and shower me with compliments, now, to be honest, that's what keeps me going.
So, rather than talk about myself I will let this website do all the talking for me. So, help yourself around the site, check out my blogs, and follow me on social media. Make sure to say hi once in a while or rather every so often. Drop me a comment or even just an emoji. It would mean a lot to our friendship. Looking forward to seeing you again soon 😊
OUR FOUNDER
An accomplished educator, turned entrepreneur, Dr. Joshua Weinstein combined his educational and work background to create a unique school & center for autism. His vision and big heart led him to undertake this great challenge upon learning that children with autism can lead a better future when given the skills to do so.
OUR MISSION
To hear the voices of the children and families that we serve as they strive to achieve their full potential for independence, productivity, and inclusion in the community. The high standard and quality of care displayed by all of our staff is achieved through their expertise and ability to hear, and learn from, those who they serve.
OUR SCHOOL
Shema Kolainu - Hear Our Voices (SKHOV) is a private, nonprofit school & center for autism founded by by Dr. Joshua Weinstein in 1998—making it one of the first schools for autism in the US. Our programs are designed to help children overcome the disabilities caused by autism, including teaching them to communicate, socialize, play, read and write. Children participate in academic and therapy programs while learning to become a member of their family and community.
OUR COMMUNITY
We later expanded our services to include community members outside of the school walls by providing early intervention, SEIT, ABA, ST, OT & PT services to higher functioning children on the autism spectrum. Community Habilitation and Respite services offers children with disabilities the care and skills implementation at home after school hours and on weekends.
